Hi All,

At elvington today (clockwise circuit), the poly bush on the nearside top trailing arm (axle end) gave up.

I've yet to dismantle and see exactly what's failed, but they were originally from ARA and looked a bit farty.

Will update once I know more.

Best course of action???

New bush or cut off the eye and replace with a threaded steel top hat and use a rod end?

Mines not roaded yet but this was a concern for me and I did cut off the axle end eyes and replace with rod ends,

The most common cause of poly bushes failing is that either the tube is rotating round the bolt (rather than the bush round the tube) or that the whole lot is being clamped up solid cousing the bush to shear to give any movement at all. I would have a good look at how it's all located. Generally poly bushes will outlast rod ends by a long way.

Are your Panhard rod bushes alright Pat? They take a fair pounding and might be allowing some sideways movement.

I would just put new poly bushes in - rod ends won't last half as long.

just to clarify the situation, it's not that the bush has sheared or parted company in any way, but it's like the poly element has squashed down and compressed so that overall, the top of the axle can move forward and back relative to the trailing arm.

unless it's just absolute crap quality polyurethane in the bushes, i can't see how replacing the bush is going to change anything, as next time it's out on track it's going to do just the same and lunch another tyre.

having said that, my mk poly bushes on my wishbones have been fine, so maybe it just needs a good quality polyurethane

So the bush has squashed along the it's length? What about the sleeves between the bush and the bolt?
