Male unions seen to come in long and short versions. Any rule on which is used where?

Also, how do I secure the hard line pipe to flexi union to a bracket? It looks as if what I need is 10mm x 1mm thin nut. Is this right and is that what people call a half nut ?

You can buy unions with a built in mounting hole.

males come in long with leader no thread to the end or short without leader threaded to the end just make sure that there is some clearance between female and male hexagon sections when tightened up to seal the swaged pipe end

ZZR, thanks but why would you use a long one as opposed to a short one, or vice versa? I have some of both.

Designer - thanks but to be clear, I'm talking about where the flexi is connected to hard line pipe, not a three way union. Are these available with mounting hole and if so do you know a source? Burtons don't do them.

Would depend on the female part, some with deaper threaded holes will need the long male in order for the unions to 'mate' togther.

I still have no idea how to fix the flexi brake pipe to a bracket. I now have 10mmx 1mm nuts but if I used them on the flexi male end there would be very little thread left to attach the female hardline union.

How is it done ?

I preume you are talking about the threaded portion of the fitting.

AFAIK the longer ones are for mounting through a bracket etc and usually come with a half nut so the flexi fixes to the bracket and then the hard line fits onto the exposed threaded end.

The short ones i think are for connecting stright onto the hard pipe or into a union or such like.

I must admit I cheated and bought a set of premade ones and they had longer threaded protions where they were intended to go throught the mounting brackets.

I put a hacksaw through a nut then dressed it. You can also put two flares one behind the other to take up space if needed...........if you have a good flaring tool.
