Spring Rates - Roin Hood
Stott - 6/10/07 at 11:25 AM

Does anyone have experience with selecting the correct spring rates for my type of car or similar?

It's a RH Series 3 2l pinto which has inboard front coilovers and rocker arms and a full sierra rear beam with coilovers attached to the trailing arm shock mount points.

The springs/dampers supplied are not really any good so I was looking to replace them.

The springs on there at the moment are 180bl front & 170lb rear ( they are 1.9" - 9" open length in case it matters) which previous builders seem to think it too hard, is it? any thoughts?

The front set up has a 4" travel on the shock, just thought I'd throw that in too...

Sorry, no idea whatsoever!

I'd of thought you'll be going to get more help on the RH forum? Where there's plenty of people with that setup.

Cheers,
James

Yeah, but you can't get a sensible answer there a lot of the time, thanks anyway

Speak to suspension manufacturers. Tell them the overall weight and engine e.t.c they must be able to advise you.

I know what you mean about the RH forums. I had one once and posted some questions on there and most of the answers were "join the club and we might help you" not good at all.

I'm sure there are some suspension guru's on here who will point you in the right direction.

Very surprised at that Stott, but anyway on the front you want about 120lbs the 170s (which are standard supply) are much too stiff, do you have the sierra anti roll bar? throw it away and fit tie bars, you will find lots of info if you do a search on the RH site. Not sure on the rear spring rates but the RHE zimmerframe shocks are famed for being poor but cheap! Most people change them for Gaz, Avos, etc. There is possibly a local Hoodie meeting near you which you can go to to get help. (But they do seem to have a great desire for hobnobs!)

I find the RHOCar forum pretty helpful lads, lot smaller group so I tend to post here more but they usually answer any Qs I have.
