RWD cars with narrow track and IRS?
Confused - 9/10/07 at 02:03 PM

I'm probably going to have to admit defeat, but I quite like the thought of putting IRS on my Anglia, thus replacing the live axle setup (especially as I'm not sure the Mk2 Escort rear axle/diff will be strong enough to take the abuse of ~250bhp)

The issue comes with the track - the Anglia is only 55 inches wide, and I don't want bubble arches!!!

The Nissan 200SX S13 stuff I've currently got is 63 inches wide, and the diff is a wide one, too, so the driveshafts are already quite short - so can't really afford to remove 4" from each side!

So, on any of your travels, has anyone got any suggestions of stuff I can look at??

Cheers!

Garry

The more I find out about independent suspension, the more I think I would have a live axle at the rear......(or a de dion)

Cheers

A bit weak probably

The track on my locost is 52" - so it's ~60" wide. I use mx5 gear with my own w/bones but I did have to shorten the driveshafts: it's all in my photo archive & website

You're mad, get a stronger axle or even better a Dedion. I don't like the handling of IRS.
