have i got a worn diff?

when i was fixing the speed sensor, i noticed that if i turned the drive shaft it turned a an inch before the the diff engaged and moved the car.

is my diff on the way out?

I can hear a noise everytime I starting the car like a metal sound for second when I am start moving the car like "donggg" and I assume that something similar is happening.
