Removing rear brake backplate.
Nosbod - 21/10/07 at 09:57 AM

Not sure if i'm being a complete idiot but i'm trying to remove the brake backplate (Sierra rear drum) from the driveshaft and having a bit of a job.

The hole in the backplate seems a fraction too small.

I wanted to be sure it's supposed to fit through before i get the files on it.

I have attached a photo as i don't explain things too well.

Split the hub from the driveshaft and it will come off the back of the hub. Do you mean it doesn't fit over the joint on the driveshaft?

Yes, i'm in effect trying to lift it off over the back. The hub is still assembled (it came from MK like it :/ )

Nosbod

I had exactly the same issue last week,
It was just a case of removing as much rust/paint/debris from both in the inside of the plate and the shaft.
I then held the plate horiztonally in my workmate so the shaft dangles down then tapped it through with a mallett.

It will fit through, just very tight!

If you can get the big nut of the drive shaft the whole lot will just come to bits.

BUT its a big if

Ok thanks for the help. Will try removing corrosion etc first and try again before i attempt undoing the hub .. although i guess i may have to do this at some point during the re-furb anyhoo :/

The drive shaft will go through the back plate. It's actually designed to do this.

A little elbow grease might be in order
