Whilst out yesterday I felt the car was slightly unsettled by a couple of road conditions.
Firstly, the back end was bottoming out in dips, cattle grids and after yumps. This isn't doing my back any good! If I wind the spring bases up
the coilover, will this raise my ride height and increase the preload on the springs? Will that reduce the bottoming out?
Secondly, when braking into corners the front started to skip / bounce. I guess this is due to under damping the front? I increase the damping a few
clicks?
Current set up is Protech dampers, with 350 springs up front and 200 at the rear. The spring seats are wound up by about 1" from the bottom.
Thanks
Mike
Winding the springs up will just adjust the ride height and make no real difference to the bottoming out problem. You could try increasing the damping
settings but you might simply need stronger springs on the rear.
The fronts sound like they need more damping - adjust them up to the max and work backwards from there, reducing the damping a couple of clicks each
time until you find a good balance between comfort and roadholding.

350 fronts in a BEC sound very hard to me, there more suited to, dare i say it a PINTO.this would cause it to skip over bumps etc and poss under steer
in corners

if yours is an indy , it should be around 300 front 200 rear .
you dont really want to increase spring rate at the back - try some longer shocks . have you looked to see how much bump/rebound travel you have ?
Sounds like i might need your front springs.
I always thought the front end was more likely to skip and slide if over firm. I always remember a mate when he had his daft head on winding some
shockers up to the max and then getting horrific understeer on a roundabout. On old Golfs the trick for better handling was softer springs and stiffer
anti roll bar.

What are your front springs then?
Mike
Not sure yet Mike. Im on a mission to find out. Are you thinking what im thinking
And the best bit is if we have what each other wants then the
house im moving into in 2 weeks time has lovely double garage to do the swap in the warm.
Did you fit protech from the start? Just wondering if you have upgraded at some time.
Nice one Darren!
Had the protechs on from new!
Sounds like a plan mate.
Mike
Even if the swap doesnt work out you are welcome to come down and use the garage. Im more than happy to give you a hand.
