Sierra rear wheel bearings
Richard Quinn - 27/12/07 at 08:27 PM

I have fitted new rear wheel bearings (bolt-on type 3.62 LSD) and put it all together. The hubs feel very stiff - I can move them with a socket on a short ratchet but very difficult to turn with bare hands. Is this normal or have I c*cked up somewhere?
Cheers

Normal if you have an LSD fitted.

I had same worries until I discovered that this is what the sierra viscous LSD does. There is actually a ford procedure involving measuring how much torque it takes to turn the hub to check it's working ok.

Yours sound fine though.

Cheers

Has the same problem used/tried two different bearing manufactures and two set of hubs and they are still stiff to turn by hand however I have been told they will bed in and turn free after a 100 miles or so.

Do you have an LSD?

Many thanks Mook! I feel a bit better about it now.
