Motorbike carbs.

Hi everybody
Ive had the old grey matter churning over to-day as was curious as to what the advantage of motorbike carbs and what is involed in changing over from sidedraft webbers , i currently run a vauxhall C20XE on twin 48 webbers.
So what would i need and what would i have to do , also is there any advantages / disadvantages Any info would be a great help cheers BILL.

Could i be so bold as to direct you to the search function in the first instance? I dont want to come across as lazy but there has been quite a few threads on this very subject before any yo may be able to get quite a bit from it.

Of course ask away once researched. Not sure who's put them on C20XE but theres bound to be someone who can comment on that.


My only comment initially would be if you have a good set of 48's and properly set up then i doubt you will get that much of an improvement. I went bike carbs as it was cheaper than upgrading to twin 45's.

adantage is cost. if your 48s are set up correctly then you'll not gain much.

You "may" get an improvement in mpg if you convert to motorbike throttle bodies, rather than traditional carbs?

OiOi went from twin webers to GSXR throttle bodies last year, no massive power gain, but noticed an increase in mpg.

But then converting from carbs to throttle bodies is a bigger job than just swapping carbs over. You'll need a megasquirt, new fuel pump and a fuel return line to the tank as a minimum.

You do not need a return line to the tank with bike carbs

i don't think you will need to go megajolt as you wont be using a vacuum dizzy know are you with webbers ?

how often do you set up your carbs know ?
i have zx9r carbs fitted for 3 years know i check them now and again but never had to set them up since fitting

you should get better mpg as a bonus

having said that if you are happy with webbers why swop ?

Why change from the 48's

If you did'nt have decent carbs, bike carbs are a cheaper way forward.

The only upgrade you could do is go bike throttle bodies !!
