Sierra handbrake cable tensioner...
tegwin - 2/2/08 at 12:52 PM

Im having a lot of trouble with my sierra handbrake cable...

I keep trying to tigthen the two nylon adjusters in the middle of the cable up, doing them up night and tight up together...

Then as soon as you put the handbrake on, the cable sleeve jumps on the tensioner, slackening off the cable.

This is obviously not the ideal situation..

How do other people deal with this inconvienence?

Are you sure that it is the knurled nut(s) slipping and NOT the self adjusters in the drum, or is this on a disc set up.
IF it is the knurled nuts slipping then the cable is U/S an needs replacing. If it is a drum brake set up then replace the self adjuster set up in the drums.

Its deffinately the nylon nuts that are slipping as I have disks...

Its a brand new cable FFS, it should just work

Take the cable back. Rant & rave cos its faulty. They do not slip if not faulty.

Yes and I'll third the jubilee clip. We had exactly the same problem on the Special and a clip placed immediately behind the nylon nut did the trick and after that there was no trouble. Simple cheap and easy.
