Steering rack limiting stops?
tegwin - 24/2/08 at 10:59 AM

Im sure this must be a fairly common issue...

The steering rack moves to far, so the wheel arches come into contact with the bodywork and lights etc...

Is there a clamp on type stop that I can get to bolt onto the rack to limit its movement?

I have a fairly smart design for a pair, and some material, but I dont have a Lathe or a mill so am really struggling to make something myself...

Anyone know where I can get some from?

lock limmiters are really just washers/spacers that stop the iner ball joints (under the ruber gatters) moving as
close to the rack body, ford do this on the mondeo st220 because of its wide wheels

Yes, thats what I thought, but where can I get a set suitable for (I think) an escort rack?

I thought a washer and a jubilee clip was the Locost option. IE washer stops the rack from travelling further and the jubilee clip stops the washer moving...

I have 1/2" of heater hose clamped with a jubilee clip on mine, i know its a bodge but it does the trick.

I used a short (10mm) split section of 32mm alloy tube held in position with a cable tie.

Haaha...

Thats amusing, I was contemplating some complicated clamping device...

How silly I am!

Mr SVA, I guess, wont object to some of the above will he?

Mr. SVA won't see it!

I like your thinking

Yup mine went through SVA like this, you might find that your rack locks more one way (only slightly) so a bit of measuring may be needed and different length stops each side.

Thats pretty much what I was thinking of making...

But if I can get away with using some rubber tube...

Hmm..will see what my bank gnome says ..
