The topic came up on the group buy in the forsale forum, this seems a more appropriate place to have the discussion:

Hi forget the smart pads. They are either to hard by far or dont last the distance depending on which ones you use.

Hi Matt

I'm curious about the difference between the pads - having looked at the friction versus temp graphs the smart pad sits between M1144 and M1155, so where do the M1144 out perform i.e. feel etc...

I've already got M1144 in my sierra calipers and don't want to take a step backwards in performance.

So without buying different pads how can you compare them?

as another option I am looking it to Hawk Black.

unless you are overheating your 1144's dont bother looking to change them.

1155 's are hard and for very spirited track and race use only especially in a light car.

I was looking at going to wilwood smart pads when I change calipers, price wise smart pads are £16.75 v's £49.50 for M1144s. I have M1144s but they won't fit my new calipers

I used EBC red stuff pads in my willwood calipers for my Pug 205 GTI. pretty good and only got a very slight brake fade after about 10 laps at full speed.
iirc they were about 30 quid for a set.

dont use the green stuff pads though they are sh1t.

I havent used the Mintex pads so I can't offer any comparison, but I find the Smart pads pretty good for fast road driving. I havent made them fade yet but track use might eventually change that

Hi all i can say is that with 4 cars racing on the power light setup. And having tried ALL the available willwood pads NON where suitable. REMEMBERING that until two weeks ago no other pad was available as a direct replacement. We where machining other pads and making them fit ( 3 hours of work per set ) so that we could use the powerlight calipers.

Now the MINTEX 1144's are available i will be running those. Or rather trying those out. But i am not expecting there to be any problems. Once we had the other pads to fit. The calipers worked very well and without problems.

The big problem with pads is that every one has there own favorites. But as i have always said between Ferodo mintex EBC. There is very little difference in performance. It is usually different people with different braking systems and different driving styles that are the biggest difference. Hence one will say they hate one brand but then many others will say i wouldent use anything else.

HTH cheers Matt
