increased braking effectiveness

I would like to increase the braking effectiveness of my front brakes. I am running cortina hubs and calipers,all standard.
I would like to have a better initial bite while braking.
So are pads my option? change the while calipers to willwoods? or use a brake bias valve?

Hvae you thought about experimenting with different pads? might be worth a go before spending loads of dosh.

Balance (ie pressure shut off) valve will only work if you have too much rear brakes.

It migh help to fit a set of OEM spec Escort M2/Cortina MK3 pads for non-servoed model -- these have a softer friction material but the chances of getting them are slim.

Also knowing the typical road surfaces in Malta which are either polished to a glass like surface or ver rough I am surprised you are complaining of lack front brakes.

If the problem is that it takes a lot of pedal effort to stop the problem lies in the mastercyliner and/or pedal leverage.
Find a smaller bore master cyilnder or increase the effective leverage of the pedal, or fit a servo.

I will try the pads out first.

No its not the stopping power that is a problem, perhaps I have been used to power brakes a little too often. What I am looking for is initial bite. I have bleed the brakes and made sure that there is no air in the system. It takes a bit of pedal movement to get effective braking. Normal road use is not a problem at all, but I use my locost for hillclimbs (on the few good roads that we have) and I would like more bias to the fronts I'm guessing.

Do the Mk3 pads fit the Mk4 hubs?
