as per my previous post, I will be starting my mods within the next
couple of weeks (school holidays
).
I will be going with the solution thta chrisg drew up for me (thanks again chris!).
I was just wondering, will 3mm plate be strong enough? I am getting quite a bit in so i can make engine mounts and suspension brackets etc.
I figured its strong enough for the suspension bracket so it should be for what im doing with the upright with enough support?
Anyone think it wont be strong enough and reasons?
Thanks
No problem miks, I'd be interested to see what others think too.
cheers
Chris
ye me too, just hope it will work well as i would like to get the front end assembled over the next couple weeks and have steering. would be a big
step for me
i think it'll be fine from 3mm steel. i seem to remember the rorty designed uprights was a complete upright made of 3mm box section.
i did notice something from chris design which may need a little re-think. nothing major, but in the middle of the 'box section' on the
extention, there's a bolt going through to the origina bmw upright in the middle. the drawing suggests the part of the upright the bolt goes
through fits tightly into the box. but the actual part of the bmw upright the bolt goes through is very narrow and would not fit tight without spacers
to pack it out.
hope that makes sense. otherwise its a very nice design
forget it, i didn't look at page 2
cheers blake, yep i did notice than and not sure yet whether to go with the first or second one. (depends on the heightand castor angle etc as to where i put the top mount
definitely the 2nd one i'd say.
