Hi, I will order my MNR kit in 2 weeks. I am hesitating between the 13" Compomotive CXR's and the 15" Team Dynamics ProRace 1.2's. The 15" wheel / tyre combo is cheaper, but if I take replacement tyre prices into count as well, by the time of the second tyre set replacement I am already better off with the 13" wheels as the tyres in 13" size are cheaper.
So I lean towards the 13" wheels, also as they look nice and small...
So now the question to you lot:
- Is there a difference in performance between the two sets of wheels do you reckon? Will I feel a difference in ride / cornering / handling?
- Does anyone know the weights of a TD or a CXR wheel/tyre combo to compare?
- Am I right going for the 13" CXR's or is it overkill for a road and track car?

What brakes are you using?? Might have problems getting the 13's over some of the bigger options?

MNR proposed both options, so I am sure the wheels will fit over the brake setup, no problems.

13" all the way. Lighter (normally), more compliant ride, cheaper tyres etc.

General opinion is that 13s are lighter and give better handling (cue people with 17s to come in and say their car handles fine ). 15s are preferred for looks (by some) and to fit over bigger brakes - if neither of those is an issue then go with the 13s.

This won't be much help but....
Had 15's, now run 13's, much nicer IMHO, although it could just be the weight, my 15's weighed loads compared to the 13's. I believe the 15" pro race are very light, so might be just as good as some 13's????
secondhand 13" slicks are dead easy to come by
which might be a consideration.

I have considered both, as I have rims in both sizes: tyres (sic) are easier to find for me as 15"; 13" are damned near impossible to get here unless Formula Ford slicks. I put 13's on since I had no probs with brakes - only one or two manufacturers make that size in 215 or larger here in North America (one of which is Sumitomo, and the other is Yokohama).

so I vote for 13s, BECAUSE THEY LOOK BETTER!!

Yes, it's mostly what is offered with the kit. But also with even number sizes there appear to be less tyre choice - or so I am being told...

Hi it all really depends on your sump clearance's.

Once you have the suspension set in to it's ideal position to give best results. This may mean that you are too low to the ground with your sump clearances with 13". In which case fitting 15" means that you can run the suspension in it's ideal setting position but gain the sump clearance by using the 15" wheels.

You will however have to sort out what sump clearances you will have before you start building the kit. But i am sure that MNR will be able to tell you what exact clearances you will have with your choice of engine. and be able to tell you exactly what height to set the suspension at also. In fact they should be able to quote clearances for both 13" and 15" with any off there std engine fitments and advise as to the best option for you.
