Driveshaft misery
nstrug - 11/5/08 at 03:36 PM

I finally got round today to replacing my diff and bolt-on shafts with the new diff and push-in shafts.

It turns out that the damn push-in shafts hae a different sized spline from the bolt-ons and won't work with my hubs !

Is this some big secret that people have been keeping from me???? EVERY SINGLE THING I have read about Sierra drive shafts says that the bolt-ons and push-ins are interchangeable.

Can someone explain to me, in words of one syllable, what I need to do to put this right?

Presumably I need some magically different hubs
from somewhere - will I need different hub carriers too?

I'm SO PISSED OFF I'm on the verge of jacking it all in and flogging the lot as a part-finished project

i may be corrected but i think you'll need drum hubs with a calpier adapter
a mate of made had the same problem luckily mk supplied me with all the stuff i needed

Yep the bolt ons and push ins are different and use different hubs. Push ins are for drum braked bolt ons for calipers but you can have push ins with caliper adaptors. Just have a rest from it all mate. I made a similar mistake and in the end I've had 3 diffs and 2 sets of driveshafts.

There are at least 3 different spline patterns to my knowledge, i went through a similar thing to you, so know from bitter experience.
You could either use the aformentioned drum hubs/disc adaptors, or get some custom shafts made, which is the route i took. GB engineering did them for me.

If I manage to find some drumbrake hubs with they:

a) work with my existing hub carriers (which are from a disk braked sierra)

b) be able to use disks

Cheers,
