Painting Aluminium Calipers
JC - 24/6/08 at 07:57 PM

I know that there have been a few painting caliper threads recently, however, the VW rear calipers that I have are aluminium. Is there anything that can be painted straight on (preferably over slight corrosion) without primer?

Thanks all,

JC

Yes. Lots. But they'll all come off after about 5 miles

I'd just wire brush 'em, acid etch + spray 'em.

Much better to do it properly the first time then have to do it poorly multiple times in one year...

Couldn't agree more!

Sorry to sound dumb, can they be acid etched without dismantling (they are in gwo, don't want the expense of nuw seals) then spray with what?

Cheers

I alway used carplan black gloss on bike ally calipers without trouble. Brake fluid on it doesn't do it much good however. Apparently the proper caliper paint is more resistant. Get rid of the corrosion first with fine wet and dry paper.
