Fitting a standard Sierra wheel for the SVA next week. Clunk. Now the steering wheel turns freely but ignition key doesn't, so presumably
I've b--d the steering lock.
Can this be fixed? Taking the lock out requires turning the key, which I can't do.
Thanks
did you have the key turned while you fitted the wheel?
if not, there's a chance you've not lined up the steering lock stub and instead, bent it/snapped it. if that's the case, chances are,
the key won't turn.
take the wheel off and check the steering lock. it's easy enough to get rid of the stub for the steering lock if that's the case.

If you're lucky a squirt of WD 40 may help
WHich bit is the stub? Can see a black collar with a little key for the steering qwheel and not much else

Found it. Jammed.
just for completeness, it's the out of focus silver bit in the extreme foreground of that picture
tom
Thanks. How do I unjam it? Or do I just need a new column?
istr you can knock the roll pin out of the casting and you can then pull the steering lock lug out. it just sits onto a lever that pushes it up
iirc.
once you've dragged that bit out, it should free the rest up unless you've catstrophically bent it. in that case, it's a new column or
just keep cutting bits back til it moves again.

Thanks. Basjed it with a hammer, now it's working. SHould have tried thnat before thinking about delicate gentle options!

lol. there's a lot to be said for an edinburgh socket set.
glad you got it sorted anyway.

Is the Edinburgh sovket set the same as a Birmingham screwdriver.
IE 5 lb lump hammer
