Narrowing rear hubs

Folks, can I pick your collective brains?

Since my Mx5 based Locost rear end didn't sell, I was contemplating using the rear lower wishbones on the Haynes Roadster, as they are fully adjustable.

Can anyone see a problem with narrowing the lower mounting hole to make it the same as the Mx5 hubs?

It'll also give me a nice platform to mount the damper from.

I would chop the hub ends off the MX5 bones, weld threaded sleeves and run rose joints either side of the hub which will allow you set set toe on the hubs.

Do not forget you will have a big half shaft running above the plate so you will need to stagger the shock absorber.

Keeping the hub bracket wide provides better location, work around this item.

I forgot to say, the other reason was to try and get the hubs inside 13" wheels. I has hoping to also reduce the over size of the hub.

you want to mount you shocks on the highest point of the hub in an ideal world

True Ash, but I do hate the angle that they sit at.

Why? Fronts are mounted on the lower bone, with a live axle on the centre line or lower on production cars.

Mine sit on the lower bone and it's not caused any issues that I am aware of, just a slight angle to miss the half shaft and the trailing top wishbone has a bend in it to accommodate the shock/spring but it's also positively located for twist by the lower bone so the top is only really setting camber

Cheers for that Mark, Looks like I'll be making some new rear lowers! Still I can sell the others. I've also a 16" Protech damper that could come in handy

I want to make sure as this is the power source!
