Suspension setups - where ?

Hi all,

Looking for some recommendations regarding where i can get a basic suspension set-up done for my Spire. Its just the tracking, toe, camber etc that needs checking - its all near as i had a quick setup done before the IVA, but i know the tracking is now slightly out.

Does anyone know anywhere 'down south' that does this kind of thing ? Ive just rang Northampton Motorsport and they were talking about £324 to do this (£90 per hour plus VAT *3 !) which seams a huge amount.

Looking at this another way, is this the kind of thing i could do at home, and would £324 buy me the DIY equipment to be able to do ?

Any advice appreciated

Cheers
Tris

You could always do it yourself; £324 would certainly but you the equipment to do the basic set-up (tracking, camber, ride heights) and probably corner-weighting as well for something as light as a Spire (4 x electronic weighing scales from Argos or Boots).

Camber can be set using a digital spirit level; tracking can be done using string or a lazer line and a steel rule (all available from your local B&Q superstore) .... it takes time and care to set up the lines parallel to the centreline of the car, and to treble-check the measurements, but if you're only planning to do it infrequently it might make more sense than splurging £hundreds on proper optical alignment gauges.

You use a smartphone runn Spirit Level Plus app in combination with a length of 100mmx100mm to set camber

I bought a Gunsons Trackrite for about thirty quid which makes doing the tracking dead easy.

I've got a camber gauge and Trackrite if you want to borrow them ? Or bring your car round and do it at mine ? I'm only in Flitwick . Although I've got some of the gear I still had mine set up professionally. Procomp sounds a good deal

If you want the job done properly by someone who understands our type of car then Matt ^^ at Procomp's your man.
It will be the best £200 you'll spend on your car, plus if you hang about (without getting in the way) you'll learn heaps.
Can speak highly enough of Matt and Ivan's professionalism - and no they haven't paid me to say that - just another satisfied customer!
Cheers, Pewe

ProComp would be my bet.

A lot of the RAF racers use them and not a bad word said.
Get it set right the first time then you a have a very good base to work from should you decide to fiddle in the future.
£200 for that amount of work is a bargain compared to what some charge.
