CV boot question - Tintop
Hello all. I have an inner cv boot to replace on my Audi 80. Its the type that has a pressed metal ring or flange bonded to it with 6 holes that the
drive shaft bolts pass through. I am interested in using the stretchy boot & plastic cone method to avoid having to take the drive shaft to bits,
its a messy job. My only concern is the metal ring. I hope to be able to cut the old boot away leaving the metal ring in place and then pass the new
boot over it and secure it to the main body of cv joint behind the ring. Has anyone tried this and was it a success?
This shown the type of joint and boot.
Thank you.

I had this to do on our Clio. Bought a boot and promptly trashed the driveshaft. Turns out a re manufactured driveshaft was only 30 quid, took 20 mins
to fit. Wish I'd looked into this first!!
