Brake discs
Is it worth buying discs like this:

Or even the drilled and grooved versions (at £50 a pair  )? or should I just use better spec pads (like green stuff or the mintex ones) with the
standard discs?

Forget any "special" go-faster discs.
The main choice is either vented or solid (if you are using cortina uprights, cortina or capri 2.8i discs)
I am currently leaning towards solid as they are lighter and I have them, but apparently they are as good as the vented jobs on a light car anyway.
Pads wise, Mintex 1144 without a doubt. They brake better than greenstuff even from stone cold, wear slower and fade later, no contest! (yes, this is
quoted from experience!)

I shall be sticking with standard the standard solid discs in this case then if they make little difference to the overall braking performance. (I
cant be dealing with the hassle of upgrading to vented discs, plus as you say they weigh more!)
Rally des have the Mintex M1144 pads for £30+VAT is that a good price?

The vented discs are more hassel than plain discs as you need to make spacers to go between the upright and caliper. The gap between the disc and
upright is about 1mm as well.

The only benefit of vented disks are that they don't heat up as quickly as solid disks. If a disk over heats then it fades and you lose braking
power.
Seven type cars have open front wheels and so there is enough cooling to keep solid disks cool. Not only that but in such a light weight car
you're not likely to put much heat into them in the first place.
Vented discs are heavier and so spoil handling slightly due to the higher unspring weight. Some say that they are pretier.
I don't think that there's much difference any way round so just use the ones that come with your donor car, unless you want to be the
winner of a race series or something.

Im not going to be racing at all (not planned anyway). I just want the best braking performance at the cheapest price, so i think i will stick with
standard discs and Mintex pads....
