XR4i bits, what should I grab?

Going down the road on Saturday to grab a 2.8i XR4i's engine and gearbox. The guy has a complete car he is breaking, other than the engine ancillaries (loom etc), is there anything else worthshile getting?

My car is cortina based (Eagle SS), can I make any use of:

Brakes (front and rear)
Steering rack
Heating system
Diff

I have all of these already, from a Mk 4 1600 cortina, but if I can get better bits from hte XR4i, this guy is pretty much giving them away.

BTW, if any members are in the area, I will pass on his contact details if you would like.

Cheers,

Ed

Get the back end - worth £100-150 if it's a slipper with rear discs!

Certainly the front brakes are worth having, if nothing else than to use the calipers as exchange units (if it's been stood for a bit they will not be worth using, they always stick), get the propshaft too, steering column might be worth having? (I don't like the sierra ones but many use them!)

Atleast some later ones had discs.

I know this as an 'H' reg one at work has them as did the car that supplied Bob's Indy.

Cheers,
James

ahhh, you either mean XR4x4 or the "badging excercise" 2.0 Xr4i model.

proper 2.8 XR4i's were only made until 1985

A lot of people on here seem to get muddled up between XR4i's and XR4x4's.

They are completely and utterly different cars in virtually every respect!!

For a start the XR4x4 drives and handles well, the XR4i doesn't! (without going into all the detail on anti-roll bars, gas shocks, ride heights, tyres, wheels, transmission, etc etc etc)

The car already has a steering column, propshaft, etc fitted which I do not want to change unless the Sierra ones are better.

As far as brakes go, will the sierra ones fit my (cortina) uprights? If not, can I use the sierra uprights without too much trouble?

Cheers,

Ed

The geometry of the sierra uprights is completely different to the cortina ones im afraid. And IMO the cortina items you have now are superior to the sierra ones...(lighter, more compact and better geometry). The sierra brakes wont fit the cortina upright AFAIK. If you want to upgrade your brakes you are into sourcing some Wilwood 4 pots (or princess) calipers to use vented discs...(vented discs probably only worth it on a track car)...
