there's a set of these on the hot rod and the only thing i could fault on them was that the adjusters were a bit vague in feel compared to the
leda units.
sorry should have said i was looking at the gaz ones

Protech are very popular - we have them on this and the old car... they do the job!

I would go for either Protech or AVO.
Pricing from MNR (and maybe others?) at the moment is so good on the Protech shocks that I would use these without question! £320(ish) for a set of 4
incl springs is a bargain for such light shocks.

The Protech's look very good and are very light. But I have seen lot's of these leak (some brand new). Not sure if they have fixed
this?

Dont forget Darren at GTS. Not sure if he has any in stock ATM. Give him a ring and he will soon tell you....
£220 a set (adjustable)
I now realise you considered this...a lot of people on here seem to have used them...and as far as I know Darren hasnt had any complaints yet! Though
I dont know how many cars using them are actually on the road yet.

TBH they are probably the ones id use. The only thing that puts me off is Darren isnt the quickest in sending stuff out.. I know he is a busy man
and all..

Quality wise among the "bigger" mnaufacturers (i.e. not Darren as I have no experience of his shockers) they are much of a muchness. I
have experience with Gaz, AVO, Spax and now Protech.
Personally I would rate the CHEAPER Spax dampers (i.e. the ones comparablly priced to the others) as the poorest, have had several and could never get
the damping anything like right on them at any adjustment, plus they aren't rebuildable.
I have got on well with AVO's. One of the ones on the rear of my grasser started leaking this weekend after a race but they are rebuildable and
the damping seems easy to set up. Gaz are much the same.

There are probably not many people who can / have compared the different shocks. oppinions are probably based on limited experience.
Ive heard of problems with AVO shocks before but i would suggest this was down to misuse and them being set far too hard for the application (boy
racers etc).
Ive fitted Gax shocks. Not on road yet but havent heard bad reports - seem OK and are cheap. I have been told that some have different mounting
widths. If youve made your own mounts i guess this is a consideration. Most bought mounts seem to be on wide side necessitating the use of spacer
blocks.

Just a quick note....
When buying your Shocks (ANY Make) check what the bolt hole sizes are.
Some are 1/2" some are M12. Some can be sourced as either.
However measure the mounting holes in your chassis FIRST.
Its not easy to drill out the chassis holes with all the bodywork on
Not a major problem, but just worth checking first!

2. Never take life seriously. Nobody gets out alive anyway.

Just to quote my own post! I have had experience with a fair few damper manufacturers at the cheap end of the market, and though I have protech on my
7 now, can only praise AVO at the price!
The AVO's on the rear of my grasser have done nearly three years racing, which in autograss anybody will tell you is hard work for them!!
One failed on Sunday, ordered a replacement (as I have no time to get the existing one rebuilt before the next race on Saturday) on Tuesday and
received it yesterday (Wednesday) It's now set up, on the car and ready to go.
I don't consider £85 a bad price either for a 20" open length, 2.25 adjustable platform, rose-jointed coilover.
Certainly got me out of the sh1t.
