What are the threads

Ok i've been GIVEN a box of bits comprising of 2 new cortina solid discs, 2 newish m16 calipers, 2 hubs one with bearings nuts and washers and one without and a cortina lh upright.
The questions are
1 what thread is the disc to hub bolts are they 3/8 unc or 10mm metric (a metric bolt seems to fit and the complete hub with bolts needs a 15mm socket to fit them?????I also presume they need to be 10.9 tensile
2 What size bolts and threads for calipers are they 10.9 or 12.9 and can i use capscrews with studlock or spring washers or will i need to use tablocking plates.
3 what are the threads for the cycle wing brackets on the axle stub are they 5/16 unc.
I remember from my early days the bsw thread forms are very similar to unc but as ford was american i assume all of the threads will be unf or unc which is why i am concerned that a 10mm bolt fits the disc to hub threads (unless i've picked up a rogue bolt from the stores).

I'm not sure but I think M10 bolt heads should be 17mm. I dont have my uprights here to be able to tell you. If you cant get an answer (though I'm sure you can) I should be able to answer most of the questions next week.

IIRC the caliper bolts need some form of locking mechanism. I was lucky enough to get a pair of locking tabs to fit mine, but lockwire would also work. Most people would advise against spring washers at high torques (about 60Nm).

I would say 8.8 bolts miniumum. But if you can get 10.9 or 12.9 then theres no reason why not to use them. Better safe than sorry and all that.

The disc to caliper bolts that are there on one of the hubs are 10.9 grade and, if they were imperial, i would have thought a 9/16 socket would have fitted but its to tight, and a 5/8 is slack, however a 15mm socket fits just fine although i would have thought if it was 10mm metric then a 14mm socket would have been the order of the day.

Here we go on the old locktabs again!!!

I am using Caphead 12.9 grade bolts to hold my calipers on, with loctite, and will see what the SVA man says. Yes I know Ford used locktabs, but then Vauxhall/Opel didn't, they just use loctite with the same size caliper bolts.

Dunno on the disc bolts though, think I just reused the old ones!

Sorry lads should have said. I've already made the locking tabs from a piece of old sheet I had. What i really need is confirmation of the thread sizes and bolt lenghts for the caliper mountings and the thread size of the caliper to hub bolts. This is because I have not got any bolts for them in the box of bits that came with the hubs. Would I get awaywith off the shelf bolts or do they need a specific shoulder locating dia.

The locking tab was posted by someone on here for the disk to hub bolts. Caliper bolts don't usually have locks on them only thread compound which doesn't usually get renewed in my experience. My caliper bolts are cap bolts and also hold my wing stays on the front. They are a standard metric but I can't remember the size. I bought mine 5mm longer to accomodate the wing stay and a washer.

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

Dig this back up again now I can confirm some bits.

Caliper to upright bolts are M12. (Should be a 19mm head i think). They are 8.8 grade.

Disk to hub bolts are M10. (14 or 15mm head i think) They are 10.8 grade (though Im not really sure why).

Splash sheild bolts to upright are M8.

I just went and got some new bolts for mine from the local fastenings place. £1 for exactly what I need. Suits me
