Sierra diff output stubs vs capri atlas diff??

a long shot but has anybody ever tried to see if the splines an a capri atlas axle match those on the sierra lobro type output stubs from a "non push in" type diff??

I know the diffs are actually very similar and that most of the ford setup tools are the same but surely it's too flukey for the sierra and capri diffs to share the same splines!??!

Heh Heh!!

The reason for the question is that martin Fox (MEF motorsport, used to rally a RWD rover called Rovaru) is after a 5.1 + ratio independent rear lsd cheaper then a Ford 9" one.

The RWD Corsa was built by Tyron Gerbez wasn't it?? Dewi Bowen's if I rember rightly!? That was at the time we were rallying the mid-engined Nova!.........small world!

Basically I mentioned to martin that he could do just what they did on Dewi's corsa, a relatively cheap way to get a bulletproof lsd with available ratios. hence the question whether the sierra/granada cv's will fit!

well - he used an escort atlas diff - so yeah the capri is similar - so i dont see a reason why not to do it .

to do the one off - it wasnt any cheaper - but replacement parts were a lot less - situation may have changed now - im not sure which way round it was - but it was definietly a mix of sierra / granada .

Darrians use the granada output flange/cv in a sierra cossie stub , BMW driveshaft - with a GKN inner CV of which type i dont know - or at least the GT car used to .

so quite a lot of stuff intermingles

give me ex boss a call , ill u2u his number

I think he was talking about £6000 plus for a ford 9" lsd in unknown s/h condition so I guess he could fabricate a bit for that sort of money!!

Will do, cheers mate.

don't forget you've got an atlas axle waiting to be 'examined' not far from your house!

good point Mike!

Just can't be bothered with taking the sierra diff out of the 7 and mucking about taking a stub out of it to see if it matches the atlas shafts though!!
