Sierra rear wheel bearings - wheels won't turn!!
Hi all - help needed I'm afraid, put new wheel bearings in the bearing carriers from a sierra 4x4, now put the driveshafts and the hubs on and
done the nuts up tight as I could, but now the wheels won't go round.....
what did I do wrong??? I've sort of heard about this problem, but never in detail... can anyone help??

Are you talking about the rear wheels? I'm told that they are very tight at first but loosen up after about 20 miles. I was told not to worry
when this happened to me.

Yes - rear wheels....
they are so tight though that I can barely turn them by hand - if this is normal, then great (much relief), if not do I have to try and fix them??

Mine were very tight at first. could hardly turn hubs by hand, marginally better with wheels on. Now done 130 miles, bedding in nicely - almost spin
now.
Do a search - regularly discussed topic. nowt to worry about.

mate have you had the abs ring grounded of the driveshaft ends
if not theres your problem

Best to rotate the wheel whilst tightening the hub nut - help to seat the rollers in the bearing. May be best to undo the nut, and for each quarter
turn of the nut whilst tightening give the wheel a spin. That way you are not putting pressure on the bearing surfaces, and the rollers will seat
against the rib.

I've looked at the abs ring, and its not hitting anything, did worry about that though.... I'll try the turn and tighten approach -
thanks. There's nothing grinding or graunching, but its kinda stiff but smooth....

My guess is that the oil seals arent seated down far enough...
Dont ask me how I know... but I had to replace 4 chewed up oil seals..
Opinions are like backsides..
Everyone has one, nobody wants to hear it and only other peoples stink!
