A short steering column??

i am pondering re routing my steering system to gain a better driving position. I reckon I need to top part to be about 19" from wheel nut to the end before attaching a knuckle joint. This will then come off at about a 20 deg angle through the bulkhead to miss the headers. Preferably with the outer casing being clamped about 10" apart. My current setup uses triumph stuff, so I don't know much about any other options. Help would be appreciated
