Sierra bearings and LSD
I have fitted new bearings to my rear hubs and mounted them in the chassis connected to my LSD.
I realise that the Sierra bearings are preloaded by the design of the hub and that there is no adjustment (unusual on taper bearings), however the
rear wheels are very stiff to turn.
What sort of resistance should i expect from the LSD? Is there a potential problem.
The resistence is such that it takes me both hands to rotate the wheels, I am cocerned I may of damaged the bearings by over tightening, although it
shouln't be possible with the design.
Will it heat the bearings if run in this condition?
Could the LSD be the problem?
Anybody had similar problems?
Cheers

Mine were also very tight. I was told that this is normal for sierras and that they loosen up after about 20 miles.

Yep, built a few vehicles with these hubs and they all do it, don't worry.
They are usually tight enough that you will struggle to turn the hub at all by hand with no brake disc or wheel on it.
One drive around the block and they will have freed up.

If you are worried about it, loosen off the nuts and then whilst tightening them back up rotate the hub thoroughly for each quarter turn of the nut.
That way the rollers will be seated properly against the rib on the bearing which is probably what happens in the first 20 miles of driving, just
doing during assembly reduces the possibility of any stress in the bearing.
