lubrication of tripodes

Anyone know what the lubricant is inside
tripode joints? and how much your supposed to put in when rebuilding them.

CV joint grease is usually a molybdenum based grease. Easily identifiable as its dark grey/black in colour.

Pack a fair amount in, but they dont need to be completely rammed full.

The reason i ask is the stuff thats come out is more like a very thick oil.

yeh mine was like that, i spoke to local garage and they said add a small amount of oil in there aswell. i didnt bother i just stuffed aload of grey grease in there

I've also used the 'runny grease' method for about 20 years if it's within a rubber boot. I was sick of pulling stuff apart and finding that the grease had worked its way into every crevice & corner except where it was actually needed. I put the grease in a yoghurt pot or similar and just stirred in a tiny bit of gear oil until it wasn't exactly runny, just 'slumpy', if you know what I mean.

yep ditto, really messy stuff too. Repacked with CV grease.
