Which axle
Hi,
Might sound stupid, but at present am a complete novice. I am building a car for the 750mc locost series and want to get the parts sorted.
Been looking on the bay and there seems a multitude of choices on rear axles setups and gearbox.
Was thinking bout mounting a 4 speed mk2 box to the 1.3 xflow. But unsure what diff ratio is best. I assume that it is the english axle type that is
found on the mkII escort. (48 inch if correct)
If anybody can help my decision...
Ta

HI again must stop talking like this.
right its escort axle not capri or cortina
gearbox wise the smaller escort box is of course lighter but thats the only good thing about it as it can be the weak link.
so i would personaly use the type 9 sierra / cortina box 4/5 speed
again personal choise but unless you buy a brian hills special 5 speed box with the better 5 gear . the standard 5th gear is to tall and becomes
usless. unless you run a 4.4 diff and drive on the rev limit every where.
sensible choice then is to use a 4 speed type 9 sierra / cortina and a 4.1 diff ratio and this will enable you to do every circuit whithout changing
for every circuit. the only unknown circuit this year is thruxton whitch is flat out all the way almost so will possibly need a 3.9 diff for there
only.
hope this helps
cheers matt
if for any reason you need info and cant get a quick answer just give me a bell as i can answer any of your question on the 750 race side of
things.

Get an Escort "English" axle --- a good bit lighter than the salsbury style.
