Cheap Shock absorbers

i have a set of 4 shock absorbers off a VW beetle from 1978. they fit the locost dimensions (10''-14'' and have polybushes at both ends but they dont have spring platforms on, is there any way i could use these to stick to the "locost" theme or would i be better off buying some proper coilovers?

cheers

Matt

You could give it a try but the chances are that they will not have the ideal characteristics for a Locost - if they are going to cost you next to nothing and the effort is not too great then why not try them?

It should be possible to fab some spring seats with a bit of ingenuity and a lathe.

You can always change them later for proper ones if they don't work out

one cheap alternative is to use bike shockers inboard, with a lever to change the ratio. £15 per corner

Not sure if they are available in the right size, but you can get the spring seats for mini shocks that you weld onto the body.
