Think I'd be more nervous about the welds on the drive shafts after lenthening them

May just be me though

I take it you mean lengthening the arms as you are thinking about bringing the arms further inward and keeping the driveshafts the same length??

iam thinking about a frame with a box in the middle. with the diff inside the box and the arms coming off the box to the hubs . but the arms would be about 400mm long could you see a prob with this . the shafts have been cut down by 100mm cus the wheel base is 1340mm

what you are doing is basically making the back end of most of our (seven type IRS) cars, and making it as a type of subframe to be bolted up to your saxo.

This is the way that I would of gone about doing the back of your car anyway (but thats only because I don't know anything about de-dion setups).

Are you wanting the arms to be 400mm long or are you wanting the upright to be 400mm away from your box???

scratch my last question Adam as it's no longer relevant!

You can easily have your bones at 400mm because thats what mine are!

the only point to make is the fact that mine are braced longitudally twice.

Do you want me to take a photo of them for you?

I hope you are ok waiting until tomorrow as I am "very busy" at work now and will be until 6am!

If it is just because you will find it easier to make, then you don't need to wait for the pic for now, you can go about and plan your box.

I can measure the spread of the wishbone arms (the bottom of the A shape) if you want that way you can make the design/make the bottom of your box cos you know the deciding length???

edited to add - I can measure those now for you - pic's tomorrow

if you can imagine the bottom bones stood up representing the letter 'A' (cos I am so bad at describing things to other people!!!) the dimensions are:

300mm wide at base
160mm wide at top
400mm tall

please bear in mind that these are done without bothering to jack up the car and it is now dark outside, but I don't think I am far off!

I can't get to the tob bone with the wheel off, so when you get there I wil get you those Dim's aswell.

Another thing to be aware of if you are going to make wishbones for an IRS setup, is the fact that I wouldn't have them all polybushed. I would put a rose joint in the rear lower bone end, that way you will also be able to adjust the toe in/out on the rear of your car aswell as the front - not by much, but enough to set up your car that little bit better!

hth
Steve

here's a pic of the top rear bones, I didn't take a pic of the lower because I wasn't able to build them up at the same time due to waiting an inordinate amount of time for some parts from my manufacturer!!!

all the best mate, if there's anything else you need to know then just drop me a U2U!

cheers,
Steve
