Securing Handbrake Cable

I'm having one of those days where every job I attempt just raises more problems than I started with

The handbrake cable that came off my donor (which is now in the bin) had e-clips securing the ends of the cable outer to the calipers. My new cable does have slots in the end of the sheath but they're not deep enough from the lip to fit the caliper, I take it i've managed to get the wrong cable (and now can't take it back because i've already cut it in half)?

I've had a quick search and found a couple of posts saying people haven't bothered securing the cable as it'll hold itself once it's connected up, p-clipped properly and under tension, is this OK? Similarly for the other end, will the tension in the cable be OK to hold the adjuster against the chassis fine?

Cheers...

Is it going through the hole properly? If it is (ie if you just pulled it out of the hole for the photo) then no worries, its unlikely to move... I didn't fit any e-clips and no problems with my handbrake so far (nor any problem @ SVA). The end of the outer is normally quite a tight fit in the hole so the e-clip is pretty unecessary...

Yeah it's just pulled up for the photo, it slips in and out of the caliper easily, which is my worry.

I wouldn't worry....
If you're going to worry you could always cut a section out of a washer to make a C and gunge it in place with silicon sealant or PVA as already mentioned... but its unlikely to be necessary...

My cables are exactly the same, I took mine back as I had the same concerns as you. When the motor factors looked into it they were the only ones listed now.
These cables cannot go aywhere as they are fixed at both ends so I wouldn't worry about it.
