avo coil over

one of my rear avo's has started to rub the spring on the shock body

with the shock off, everything looks ok, and there is a good 3 or 4mm clearance all round

apart from a substandard spring, what could cause it to rub ? the shock feels ok, and the spring and shock were both new and from avo when i got them
thoughts ??

how can that be? the top and bottom of the shock should have locating seats on whcih the spring sits.

the spring cols are flattened and then ground flat so they site properly on thos seats.

only thing I can think of that can cause your problem is:
1. spring is bending
2. spring has jumped off seat
3. seat is moving under complression - one of them is the adjustable collar
4. piston rod in shock is slack
5. end bushes are seized so shock ends are not able to turn

very strange.

can you tell if it is the spring or shock that is bending?

well went to visit avo today
they say it aint the spring but an alignment problem. suggested i hang it fromt he top and see if it wants to follow the bottom mount (without the spring)
he has given me a new set of bushes (top bloke ) so will see what tommorow eve brings

i can see his point, lookin at the car when i got home, maybe a little fettling is required.. just dont see why it started now, and didnt happen 2 years ago when i fitted them

still top marks to avo, much more helpfull that the last thing i read about them would make you belive
