anyone know what running gear i could use to run a 1400 vauxhall nova engine inline for my gentry rwd...maintaining the triumph diff as the rear suspension works on the rear axle. or anyone think of a better engine set up...not looking for power just a more mondern set either injection or not.... must be 5speed....

I would find a spitfire 1500 engine and gearbox with overdrive .

Then do a nice bit of porting on the cylinder head and fit it with bike throttle bodies and Megasquirt.

Much easier and will be just as quick as the Vauxhall engine.

Cheers

Urrgghh. They truly are boat anchors that make a Pinto look like a technological marvel.

I *think* that the standard Vauxhall/Type 9 bellhousing (often used with C20XE etc) will fit the smaller Vauxhall engines, and they are easily available from SBD, Yukspeed etc. Nat will hopefully be along to confirm or deny this.

well they are a lot older than the pinto in its defence, but can be made to run quite well - and they are ideally suited to the Gentry with its dodgy rear suspension etc.

Only problem with the 1500 Triumph engines was an appetite for bottom end bearings knock knock But parts are easily available.

Ford Carb CVH to a Ford type 9 gearbox is an easy option. I own an Xr3 spec 1600 CVH engine from a 1988 Orion --- weber carb & distributer iginion -- very easy to deal with.

Even 1.6 or 1.8 Zetec is beyond your cars chassis limitations.

If you are going to buy a bell housing why not think about a K8 from an early K series Metro or an 8 valve. early 90s Rover 214

Thanks for suggestions guys, Im surprised that someone seems to know what a Gentry actually is !!

I am running 1500 Spit engine at the moment with a 4 speed 'box, but engine is getting tired. The intention was to see what other more up to date options are available to me. I am at present fitting megasquirt and throttle bodies, but expect that to finish off the engine. Has anyone ever done that to a Spitfire engine? and did it survive?

It just seems that to get a better engine and go to 5 speed would be a better option, but what?

thanks for those links,
SBD do a manifold 8v vauxhall to Ford gearbox about £160. I know where I can get Type 9 5speed box, guess Im looking for 1600 8v engine now then.
