Handbrake help please
This is going to be really hard to explain but here goes.
I have fitted siera callipers to my capri live axle and got a new sierra handbrake cable which fits to the sierra callipers.
The sierra cable has an outer sheat which has to be attached at one to the callipers and the other usually to the chassis which locks the outer sheath
in place and allows the suspension to move up and down without the inner cable tensioning. A bit like a throttle cable. The car had a MK2 escort
axle and handbrake so only has the 1 hole in the chassis to secure the end of the sheath where the sierra cable had 2 ends.
My question is, If I make a bracket that is welded to the axle that holds the other end of the outer sheath (not the calliper end) will the cable be
tensioning everytime i go over a bump as the movement of the axle will slightly tension the cable as it moves it slightly away from the handbrake when
it goes up,
The proper way to do it would be to fabricate a mounting point on the chassis which will allow movement but this isnt easy as i dont have much
room.
I hope this makes sense but its hard enough to get my head around without trying to explain it in words
the car is registered so no sva to worry about

can you not just drill another hole in the chassis next to the original one?
its hard to tell without knowing how much room you have but i dont think making the bracket on the axle will work?
Or mabye will the handbrake cable you had fitted fit the sierra calipers?
just a thought

you need another mounting point on the chassis, if only because the axle movement will give you serious chafing issues on the inner cable.
shouldn't be tooooo hard to knock up another mounting for another cable end.

the exisiting handbrake cable comes in to the car at the back of the tunnel on the pass side, runs along floor right up against the tunnel to the
h/brake which is attached to the pass side of the tunnel by the dash
The live axlee uses a different system with 1 cable and a solid bar from one drum to the other so there is no way for that to fit. On the drums the
h/b levers just pulled to the centre towards the diff but the sierra callipers pull toward the front of the car.
Its not just a hole in the panel, its a metal plate bolted in wwith a piece of tube welded to it at an angle that the end of the outer sheath fits to
and locks in place.
I think i'm going to have to refit the axlee and see what my options are.
