LSD quick Questions...

Hi all,

I'd like to go LSD on the MK.....
Does anyone have some advice on what i'll need. I've got drums on the back at the moment and a 3.62 open diff running on a 954 blade lump.

Do i HAVE to go to discs on the back with new shafts etc etc? Or can i keep drums easily?
How much should i be looking to spend?
Does anyone know of a good place to find one?

Thanks a mil

It's not a simple answer to your question.

If you don't want to change to disc, then you could go and get the Quaiffe internals for your existing diff to convert it to an LSD, very costly (circa £600), but is better than the standard Ford LSD... OR

you could find someone to make up a set of driveshaft to allow you to keep the drums on the back (LSD were never made with push-in shaft)

Finally you could just get a whole beam axle from a Sierra 4X4 and swap diff and discs

Hope this help

Regards

Scott

Can the drums not be retained if you use the hubs / hub carriers from a LSD rear end??

Welderman is doing/has done this conversion on his car. Get in touch and I'm sure he'll set you straight.

I did it on mine, but mine was running discs with adapters anyway. I still had to go full disc rear end, which meant hubs, uprights and shafts. The only thing I didn't have to do was the calipers.

To keep the drums, I think that you would need to get some new driveshafts made up to take the lobro CV joints at the diff end.

The simplest solution may be to get a whole new back axle with diff and disks and a new hub carriers from MK.

Cheers

Hmmmm they were all the answers I'd had in my head already.. Pants!
Maybe we'll just wait until i can afford the Quaife option or similar!
Im probably safer with only one wheel spinning!

Just bored of getting understeer when trying to get sideways on roundabouts!
