Quick Reminder Needed - Sierra Rear Hubs

Hi all,

Following advice offered on here, I'm planning to remove the rear hubs from my Sierra disk-braked rear suspension sometime this week in order to fit longer wheelstuds.

It's been a few years since I stripped all this down so need a few reminders please.

I know I need to remove caliper and disk and undo the large centre nut.

Are these nuts left and right threaded?

What torque setting do I tighten them to on re-assembly?

Anything else I need to know/re-remember?

Thanks in advance!

Martin

Do you have to remove the drive flange from the shaft to do the job? You may be able to remove the caliper without disconnecting, remove the disc and get enough room to remove the studs as well as fitting the new ones? Might be worth a try? The hub nuts are done up F/T the O/S is normally a right hand thread and the N/S left hand but you should have enough thread showing to see.

Yes both left handed and right handed both tighten towards front of car so Left hand thread on passenger side, Although my original shafts were from a very early car and were both Right hand thread both sides, nuts are usually colour coded green and white if you have the two thread types.

Torque is 250Nm so you will need a very long breaker bar or similar.

Duratec Engine is fitted, MS2 Extra V3 is assembled and tested, engine running, car now built. IVA passed 26/02/2016

Going out in the garage shortly to try in situ.

Cheers

Try one stud at a time just in case you can't get the new ones in and have to undo the hub nut

Hi all,

Well, no need to remove the hubs after all.

Knocked the old studs out and pulled the new ones in.

Straightforward job really.

Again, thanks for all the advice.

Ta!
