8" Sierra Rear Drums
Are the 8" drum brakes from the 1.6 Sierra a simple swap for the 9" brakes I have from my 1.8 cvh rear setup? I know I need the drums,
backplates, fittings etc. but are the hubs and driveshafts the same? I want to save some weight but don't want/need costly disc brakes.

there is no problem with swapping these over, just use the smaller back plates to suit the smaller drums and obviously the smaller shoes etc.

The weight saving will be minimal -- just a guess but less than a kg per wheel

That will be fine, say just under 1kg on top of the 2kgs I've saved on the wheels. That's at least 5kgs of unsprung weight in total. And
5kgs is over 1% of the total target weight for the car.
I will post the actual difference in weight between the drums when I get them.
