what wheels to buy
I know this quetion must have been asked loads of times but cannot find what I want in a search.
We are at the buy the wheel s and tyre stage. We are using a standard chassis with escort rear and cortina front. The 13 inch escort wheels with 155
tyres just miss the trailing arms front mounting bolts, but do not fill the Luego velocity standard arches. We want to go 14 inch 185, 70 profile. I
cannot fit a standard set of sierra wheels on because they do hit the front mounting bolts. I understand there is a mearurement that discribes the
distace fron the inner mounting flange to the inner tyre edge. (EN ? ) as we want to push the outer edge of the tyre out to the outside of the arch
to fill it out.
I want also to know are wheels covered by the exterior projections in SVA test as cannot find referance to judge against when we go shopping. Can
anyone help with either question or recommend any wheels,( ALI hopefully).

Just make sure you buy the stickiest tyres you can because normal road tyres don't get much of a chance to warm up due to the lack of weight.
I'd go for Toyo 888's or Yokohama's equivelent,038's i think.

Have you considered what gearing you have (diff ratio) and what size tyre you should run? Typically there is no benefit going over 185's do to
the vehicle weight (lack off) - similarly there is no benefit going over (I'd say) 15" wheels. I run 6Jx13 Revolutions with 185/60x13
Maxsport soft and super soft tyres. A 185/70x14 tyre will be heavy and quite soggy - if this is required for your gearing I'd consider changing
the diff and dropping to 60 profile, or going to 185/60x15s. I have no idea how Revos fare with SVA. If in doubt stick to some standard steels
(Cortina/Escort?) for SVA (with caps/trims?). Like said elsewhere don't put more in front of the inspector than you need to.

As I understand it fitted wheels are not tested for sharp edges. Knock on centre spinners are. The spare is tested for edges and projections so you
can buy five of what you want, pass on the four fitted and fail on projections on the spare unless it has a cover!
