steering column

I believe that you need a collapseable steering column for sva? how will i know if mine is SVA ok? What will keep Mr SVA happy?

sorry, couldn't resist.

most on here use the ford sierra column, which is collapsable.

A few including me have used the opel manta/mk1 cavalier column, which again is collapsable.

Nova column is similar.

Alternatively, you can go without it being collapsable as long as you have at least two uj's in the column and its connected by an angled link at sufficient angle to direct the column away from the driven in a frontal impact (full details in sva manual)

However I'd just go with the collapsable column, much easier!

it's not the steering wheel but the column that should be collapsable, also try to avoid a straight column as these can be dangerous, best have it like zigzag so it folds up in a crash. The steering wheel should be padded in the center and have no holes in the spokes.

I'm pretty sure the e36 collumn will be. thinking of my 328, the collumn to the rack is pretty straight i think, so they must have put a collapsable collumn in there... i thought most cars had them in the last 20 years or so.

can't say for definite, but i'd think BMW would have it
