DIY Steering Wheel
Found an old project yesterday that I started a while ago after wanting a smaller wheel but not wanting to pay the huge prices.

Here it is looking a bit rough and mis shapen. A bit of old steel cut with the grinder and 10mm concrete reinforcing rod which I bent by hand.
I've added some foam and drilled it and it just needs some more bits to keep its shape and some cheap material. Going to look for a suede jacket
I think in the second hand shops. Kept me busy for a short while. Locost all the way!

Yeah I know what you mean but it does feel remarkably alright. It'll be bound a bit with summat and then again in suede so it should be a bit
tighter.

Hmmm, each to his/her own. Personally I prefer my steering wheels to be round.

think its more a case of, he found an old unfinished project, and thought he might as well finish it for something to do

I don't expect it to be round; flat bottom or other variations are fine... but I do think it should be symetrical.
I think your report card might read "Could do better"

Sorry MisterGrumpy but that looks naff - i think i'd rather fork out for a new steering wheel than be seen with that in my car!!!

Give him a chance guys. It's not finished. It could look really good (or really bad come to that). Post a pic of the finished article. If
it's naff sell it on ebay. If it's good sell some on here.

Ha! It isn't finished. A long way from it but I may remind all you doubters that I built the rest of the car in the same way and that's
still going,
I do agree it looks rough, hence the comment on me finding an old project and I did say that I hadn't finished with it.
I think it's okay for a job bent over my knee. Flat bottomed steering wheel for the price of a countersink drill and I will be covering it,
I do sometimes think this site is straying from the Locost ethos but I do agree that this project is a little tongue in cheek but god damn you all
I'll finish it and it won't be any worse than the rest of the car
Viva la home made steering wheel.

It could be nice when its finished. I have a partially done one here that I cut down from a 17 inch mgb one. Cant decide to finish it or not I want
a wood rimmed wheel but they are costly.

cut out the center and rebent the the out ring till it was round -13.5 inch and welded it back in. Just need to find a way of covering the metal ring
properly.
