How to best run a wobbly steering coloumn
Morning all.
As part of my Sprite build I'll almost certainly need to alter the steering column. It's currently a straight run from wheel to rack, but
when I fit the new engine I'm going to have to cut out the corner of the footwell end that it runs through and replace it with a box to clear
the engine.
So what is the best way to alter the run of the column? Will a few UJs and pillow blocks/rod ends do the job? If so, how do I need to arrange them? Is
it a case of 1 extra support per UJ, or is there a little more to it than that? The run will probably need to turn downwards under the dash somewhere
and then run in a more horizontal way to the rack, so maybe 3 straights.

well i cant speak for the locost world but in the cortina im rebuilding the steering column has 2 UJ's it goes down through the bulk head at a
good near 40 degree angle then hits a UJ then goes down the side of the V8 then to another UK which bring the rack level and to the left slightly. so
it actually goes round the engine.
It does make a slight difference in how hard is it to steer with it not being power steering but it works fine.
ONLY issue is angle of wheel now.

That's pretty much what mine may have to do, except mine's a V6. Any details on how you've supported the various sections?

ill get some pics later today and send you them.
I know we used the escort UJ and the cortina UJ. the top is supported to the upper column and the bottom to the rack....
