Rubber disc in sierra steering. Where from?
Hi,
The rubber disc in the steering link on my kit (the one that is at the rack-end of the steering shaft) has seen better days. I'd like to replace
it either like-for-like or with a proper universal joint. I am having problems sourcing either though. The only thing I can find online is a
replacement disc for 80(!) quid on ebay: FIRSTLINE STEERING COUPLING KIT RC219643P TO FIT FORD SIERRA 1.6 82-93 OE QUALI |
eBay
Does anyone know where to get this part cheaper or can anyone recommend a suitable universal joint?
My car has a shortened Sierra rack.
Thanks!

Had the same problem earlier this year, don't bother replacing with another rubber, there are poly replacements from makes such as poly sport
from rally design.
procedure on the fury went as follows.
Cut off the old bracket thats welded to the steering rack extension tube.
Purchase a 300mm splined shaft and either a group N or pressed steel universal joint from rally design ( CBS are expensive!!)
Push the UV joint onto the rack's splined input.
The splined shaft is cut in half as u only need one end to slide into the rack extension tube,
Assemble marking the required total length
Weld the shaft into place but be careful as the rack extension tube is a lot thinner than the new splined shaft so u may either blow through the tube
or not properly penetrate onto the shaft.
If u like as I did drill through the rack extension tube and shaft further up and fit a roll pin.
My description is wee poor I know, I'll post a picture in a bit.

Hi Mazie,
Thanks for the info and the kind offer of the shaft. Would you be willing to post it to the Netherlands? Should be possible with the Royal mail (small
packets service) and I would more that happily cover the cost.
If you'd be willing to do this, could you perhaps measure the ID and OD of the shaft so I can figure out if it will actually slide in/over the
extended steering shaft I have now?
Thanks!
