rear shocks

Hi
Can anyone tell me if irs and live axle use different shocks?
I have an irs seven, don't knw what make, and have bought a set of spax nitron shocks that were previously on a Westfield
Also what length and poundage springs would people recommend for a track only zetec powered car?
I have searched, and found some differing opinions. Would like to hear more as to what people are using.
Thanks, Andy

Shock length and spring rate depends entirely on the suspension geometry of the particular design.

Most 7's use rear shocks with an open length somewhere between 11 inches and 13 inches. The spring rate on a live axle will typically be lower than that for an IRS since the shocks are almost vertical with a live axle, but significantly inclined for most conventional double wishbone IRS designs which reduces the effective spring rate.
