Steering coupling - escort MK2 rack

My lower steering down link ends in a rubber disc type link conecting it to the steering rack. I dont like the look of it or trust a 20 year old lump of rubber with my life!.

How hard is it to replace it with a steel UJ type joint.

How do I remove the old link. I notice that the end of the column is splined. If I heat up the old link and try and tap it off will this work?

Any ideas?

The rubber disc joint is held on with a pinch bolt. Just undo it and tap it off.

You can buy all steel UJ for the escort rack from people like rally design. Theya re about £25 and IIRC they are a direct replacement for the rubber disc one.

You can buy the rubber disc, cut the rivets that hold the old one and replace them with M8 bolts.

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.
