Wheel Studs (Again!)
A while back there was some discussion about longer replacement wheel studs and them not fitting. I am in the position of probably needing longer
studs now and was wondering what happened?
I have got my cortina uprights and I understand that the standard studs arent long enough if you want to use alloy wheels?
I found the list of studs on rally design here:
http://www.rallydesign.co.uk/catalog/index.php?cPath=731_735
But there are several different lengths available? Which ones should I go for? I assume that they should be the metric studs, ie M12 thread? (mk3
cortina).
Cheers,
David

That's my theory as well Dave or buy some Sierra ones as they aren't too dear.
yours, Pete
I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

Depends what wheels you are fitting!!! My pug wheels with inserts are too thick for the std sierra studs to be long enough!

Cheers guys... The scrappies is an option, but then new studs are only 80p each....! So £6.40 for a set for the front, so is it worth going to the
scrappies?

Just make sure you have five or six (I think) full turns of the nut when fitting the wheel - SVA will check.

I went to the scrappys and found a very late sierra and tapped out the rear studs. They washed up like new ! Threads are perfect and they didn't
cost a penny !

"just like that !"

Mine were straight out of fords part bin standard to most fords ie Mondeo ect..
I have pug 205 1.9 gti wheels and counter sunk the alloys to acept capri laser alloy wheel nuts which have a flat washer not the cone ...
Just the job they were nearly to long for the nuts........

When my borther was looking for longer studs for his rover he was told that the minimum was 8 full turns. With standard studs + alloys he managed 8
and a bit turns and they seem to have stayed on OK at that.

Hi, this is interesting as I am still musing over this one. All the RS 4 spoke type wheels that I have seen (I have a few for my grasser) have the
"Ghia type" nuts with a loose washer but it's conical not flat??
I am confused as the flat ones would be just the job!
