Finally got my rolling chassis home today and hopefully someone on here can identify what back axle and what steering/front suspension/brake package i've got! Any educated guesses welcome! Rescued attachment IMG_3196.JPG

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

Vauxhall parts I bloody hope not! The part with what looks like GM is the top of the axle casing, it was the only numbers i could find on it.

Ben,

What's the story with it? Built by someone here or an e-bay special?

Can the seller not tell you any useful info?

How much did you pay (if you don't mind me asking!).

Cheers,
James

I bought it from a friend of my father in law. He bought it about four years ago and all he did to it in that time was buy two Mazda MX5 seats and put the alloy wheels on it. He couldn't remember any of the running gear but he thought it was a mixture of Capri/Cortina. I paid £750 for it, its a completed chassis with all panels (made from steel) apart from bonnet. I belive its the +4 chassis. It came with the two seats a couple of rads, a couple of steering colums all brakes/suspension and wheels with brand new tyres, a home made pedal box, a handbrake lever, a wiper motor and linkage and a windscreen frame. I have removed the screen and the wipers though. I know i've probably paid slightly over the average but it was local and all that was about down here in Cornwall. I'm still after a definate answer to what runnning gear is on it so i can get new brake parts!

The rear axle is definately not an english axle but could be a salisbury. Strange mounts at the top though for a Capri but could be Cortina i suppose. Sorry but thats all i've got to say at the moment.

sorrry gazza285, i did read your reply. When you say mk 3,4 or 5 is that because they are all the same or are there slight differences?

Gazza,

you are saying its all cortina ie including the rack, as the rack is sitting at the reverse angle of what an escort one would be, but then if its a +4 that might make sense.

Ned.

The rack mounts look like they are on back to front, I see what you mean Ned. Change them to standard Escort rack fitting and it should be ideal for a +4 chassis.
