Are all sierra uprights the same?

As the title really, apart from the 4x4 uprights do all the varients ie 1.6 1.8 2.0 models have the same uprights?

And also do you need specific callipers to use vented disks?

Excuse the BASIC questions but this Sierra business is all new to me..........................show me a cortina upright any day!

Simply,
No.

There are two castings in the early models. Although, geometry was always identical.

From Mk2 on they were all the same, except for 4x4's and some xr4's, which have Scorpio type lower joint attachment, and a bigger diameter top spigot. Bosses were added later on for the abs sensor, but the geometry didn't change.

And for all of those contemplating welding to altered front uprights, and modifying rear bearing carriers,.....
the material is alloyed nodular graphite cast iron, similar to cast cranks.

DO NOT WELD TO THESE ITEMS.

They may appear to be steel, but are not!!

In time, any welded items WILL fail in the heat affected zone on the edge of the weld.

Now THAT I didn't know!!

I assume the cortina ones are forged steel aren't they?

Hope so as they seemed to weld ok!

I have a picture in my archive of a std. sierra one next to a 2wd cosworth an they are very much different but similer. the cosworth one has a parallel pinch bolt for the bottom ball joint and is also allot taller than the std. one and the insert geometry is also different.
